Introduction: Job satisfaction is positively and mutually related to life
satisfaction. Job satisfaction is affected by employee's desire to use their
skills and abilities. Employee
job satisfaction results in positive behavioural outcomes at work. High job
satisfaction enables employees to satisfy customers/patients whiles creating
customer experience at work. Satisfaction in the workplace plays a dominant
role in eliciting positive work behaviour in the Ghanaian healthcare setting.
Methods: The current study was conducted to assess factors
influencing job satisfaction among nursing staff in the Akatsi South Municipal
Hospital, using an
institution based
descriptive cross-sectional survey research design. The study was conducted
among 290 nursing staff working selected using convenience sampling method. A
questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected data was analyzed
using descriptive statistics such as percentages and frequencies and
inferential statistics (ANOVA and chi square test).
Results: The study revealed a substantial
correlation between team dynamics and job satisfaction, presenting a notable
disparity. An association was identified between the work environment and the
level of job satisfaction among nurses. There exists a positive correlation
between a fair work environment and heightened levels of job satisfaction,
whereas an unfair work environment is linked to diminished levels of
satisfaction. The presence of career advancement prospects has been identified
as a significant factor influencing the level of job satisfaction among nurses.
There was a significant correlation between the availability of sufficient
career advancement prospects and increased levels of job satisfaction among
nurses.
Conclusion: Healthcare organizations ought to
prioritize the establishment of opportunities for professional growth to
augment nurses' job happiness and general welfare. The study may be useful in
minimizing high attrition levels, which may be caused by low levels of job
satisfaction in the Ghanaian healthcare system. The study of job satisfaction has relevance to
nursing from economic, humanitarian, and professional perspectives.
