The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that
neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) represent a diverse group of 20 communicable
diseases that occur in tropical and subtropical conditions in 149 countries and
these affects more than 1 billion people and cost developing countries billions
of dollars annually. The general objective of the study is to ascertain the
health-seeking behaviour for skin-related NTDs in the Atwima Mponua District of
the Ashanti Region of Ghana. A research design is a procedural plan that is
adopted in a study to answer questions validly, objectively, accurately and
economically. The research design was a descriptive cross-sectional using
quantitative data collection tools. The research tool was filled by serial
number and the principal Investigator did entry using the Statistical Package
for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0 software. The results show that most
variables under stigmatization were not associated with health seeking
behaviour. Those who indicated that Community has less respect for me because
of the condition showed significant association (X2 = 1.6, p=0.040), however
was not significant at the Crude odds ratio COR (1.1(0.3-6.1) O=0.641). The
study recommended that Intensify counselling and support services for both old
and new cases of skin-related NTDs in order to support them to stay positive
amidst stigma and discrimination.
