Cytomegalovirus Retinitis

Abstract:

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis is a vision-threatening opportunistic infection commonly observed in immunocompromised patients, particularly those with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This report presents a case of a 34-year-old woman with HIV who developed CMV retinitis following antiretroviral and corticosteroid therapy. Despite initial treatment with intravenous foscarnet and intravitreal ganciclovir, retinal detachment occurred, leading to surgical intervention. This case highlights the complexity of managing CMV retinitis and the importance of early detection and tailored therapeutic strategies.
